. For less than $50 per month, this policy provides consumers with physician and prescription services, In addition, it helps pay hospitalization charges. Deductibles and co-pays are low. In addition, the carrier has many more plans that are both affordable and all-encompassing, including:

  • Individual Key Care Preferred/Basic: With deductibles as low as $150, these plans offer predictable co-pays and a 20% coinsurance amount. Wellness care for children is included in the plan with no deductible. The Basic plan requires a prescription deductible.
  • Individual Basic BlueCare/Virginia Advantage: Enrollees can choose any physician with these plans, and basic hospitalization and outpatient care is included in coverage. The plans also carry an optional supplemental accident and dental rider. The Advantage plan requires no deductible for prescription benefits.
  • HSA: The Health Savings Account is a standard offering with almost every insurance carrier. The HSA is set up to allow members to withdraw funds from a tax-free savings account when needed for care. Year by year, consumers can build up their insurance fund, in effect pooling their own money to pay for medical procedures.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Virginia also offers statewide free clinics for the uninsured. For rural residents who may have trouble reaching the doctor's office, the carrier also awarded a grant in the amount of $250,000 to the University of Virginia's Office of Telemedicine, which allows doctors and patients to communicate from a distance.
