Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of New Mexico has done a lot for the residents of the state, including those who may not be able to afford a traditional medical plan. With The Care Van, BCBS of New Mexico works with the state to provide rural residents mobile medical care. Childhood immunizations, child assessments, medical screenings and even dental screenings are provided at no charge. They also consider consumers who don't qualify as low-income but still need help with medical costs by offering many plans specifically designed for those on a budget, including:
- BlueChoice: Deductibles range from $250-$2000. There is a 20-30% co-insurance for hospitalization, but individuals pay no more than $2,000 per year out-of-pocket. Well-visits are covered with a small co-pay. Also included in the plan is prescription drug coverage and accident dental coverage.
- BlueChoice Plus: This plan carries the same deductible as the BlueChoice, but it also contributes up to $400 for preventive care (including immunizations, vision and hearing screenings), which is covered with no-deductible. Hospitalization and emergency room service are covered, and accidental dental coverage is also available.
- Blue Edge HSA: This plan is focused on including coverage for preventive care and wellness. Consumers simply deposit funds in a tax-advantaged savings account, and withdraw money as required for medical care.
In addition, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico offers its members access to discounted dental and vision care, as well as provides them with other health and wellness programs.
