Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont
Though its size may keep it from the limelight, Vermont, like other New England states, has high expectations when it comes to family health care. As the only state-based insurance carrier in Vermont, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont has a large job. And it does its job well. BCBS of Vermont is responsibility for maintaining the Vermont Health Plan, which is the state's main provider of affordable insurance. It provides members of this plan with free preventive care, including physical exams.
BCBS Vermont Coverage
The carrier also provides full-service care to many different sectors of the economy. Plans offered include:
- Plan J: This plan covers both hospital and physician services. As a PPO plan, members may choose a doctor either in or out of the network. However, they will pay more for care received outside of the network. The plan pays for inpatient stays and outpatient services, including outpatient surgery and emergency room charges.
- Comprehensive Plan: This is a PPO service plan, offering comprehensive medical coverage both in-network and out-of-network. Benefits of this plan include chiropractic visits and mental health programs.
- HSA Blue/BlueCare/Individual HSABlue: These plans work along with a health savings account. Members choose a deductible at least as large as the minimum amount set by the government, and use the HSA to pay for the deductible.
- Vermont Freedom Plan: This is a direct-pay program that offers consumers four different deductible options. This deductible will count toward most services, excluding office visits.
- BlueCare Options: This point-of-service plan covers urgent care and hospital treatment. With preferred and standard treatment benefits, consumers have a lot of flexibility in how much they pay for service.
