Individual policy regulations in Kentucky include the following details:

• In Kentucky, insurers are required to offer a standard plan so that you can compare pricing easily.  Insurance companies can also offer other plans as they choose.
• Insurance companies can only exclude pre-existing conditions for twelve months. Pre-existing is defined as a condition that occurred sometime in a six month period prior to receiving the insurance.
• Newborns area covered for 31 days after birth under their parents' plans.
• There are limitations on the amount of money that premiums costs, but you still may be required to pay higher premiums if you have serious health problems.

Kentucky Access offers are several avenues to eligibility for insurance coverage, including being rejected for insurance or having an insurance plan that requires higher premiums than Kentucky Access with similar coverage.  In addition, you may qualify for Kentucky Access if you have AIDS, leukemia, cystic fibrosis, Wilson's disease, Parkinson's disease, or other serious illnesses.  Kentucky Access offers two PPO plans and a traditional health care plan plus optional riders.  Services cover preventative healthcare, prescription drugs, and hospitalization.
