• Insurance companies are not required to automatically issue you an individual policy.
• Children who are disabled may be able to continue receiving coverage after they reach legal age under their parent's policy if the children cannot support themselves.
• Insurance companies can exclude pre-existing conditions, or conditions that occurred in the six months prior to issuing the policy, for six months, and in some cases, permanently.
• Pregnancy might be considered a pre-existing condition.
• Some services, including immunizations for children, are required to be covered by individual policies.
• Insurance companies cannot cancel your policy if you suddenly become ill.

N.M. State Health Insurance Programs

The New Mexico Medical Insurance Pool offers insurance coverage to those who have been denied an individual policy.  Services include adult and child wellness, hospitalization, and prescription drugs.

New Mexi Kids offers healthcare coverage for children under the age of 19 who are from qualified low income homes.  Coverage includes doctor visits, hospitalization, and prescription drugs.
